I would have never guessed that the decision to physically close schools in the middle of March would have stretched to the end of the school year and cause uncertainty for opening in this fall. That being said, the entire school community really stepped up and showed the resiliency and understanding that makes all of our communities unique and special. The District is currently in planning and generating several scenarios to reopen on September 1, 2020. While is it our hope to have all students back in the fall, an outbreak of COVID-19 in the area could quickly derail that hope. No matter what scenario we elect to begin with, It will certainly look different, but we feel strongly that our community needs us to “turn over every stone” in hopes of creating a sense of normalcy for everyone.
Listed below are potential scenarios that could be put into place with emphasis placed on social distancing, hand washing and sanitizing, disinfecting, and other safety measures to reduce the potential for a COVID-19 spread. Also, we do plan to provide a digital learning option for those families that elect to stay home.
- All students (4K-12) will have face-to-face learning at school daily.
- 4K-8 students will have face to face learning daily and high school students will attend face-to-face every other day.
- 4K-5 students will have face-to-face learning daily and grades 6-12 will attend face-to-face every other day.
- 4K-5 students will have face-to-face learning daily and grades 6-12 learn from home digitally.
- All students learn from home digitally.
No matter which of these scenarios is ultimately selected, it is going to have to be a year in which all of us display great flexibility and patience. It is entirely possible that the District will have to implement several of the previously listed scenarios at different points of the school year based on the current status of COVID-19 and recommendations from health departments.
Also, it is important to note that the District will enact a series of health measures as the safety of our students and staff is our number one priority. These guidelines will be developed in accordance with guidance provided by the Center of Disease Control (CDC) and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI). We will continue to monitor and adjust these health measures as things change.
Get ready for the 2020-2021 school year! By working together and exhibiting all the fine qualities that makes our District special, we can get through this.
Enjoy the rest of summer!
